All About Me

Sherri B. Dowdle, PLCGS

I have been an independent genealogist for over 20 years. My love for family stories began as a child, listening to my Grandma Jo tell stories of her childhood and heritage. I wanted to learn how to research, so I took the one and only available genealogy class my first semester at college. I loved my hobby but never realized that genealogy could be a career!

As a stay-at-home mom, my research time was during late nights after everyone else was asleep. I learned how to research my own family, and often helped others with their genealogical questions.

Attending Rootstech 2009 in Salt Lake City, Utah, changed my life! I learned that there were professional genealogists, schools and institutes available for education, and thousands of people with the same passion to find ancestors and save their stories. I have enjoyed learning more and more every year, finding additional education resources along the way.

…and so it began…

When not at work, I enjoy traveling, kayaking, volunteering, cooking, eating, playing
piano, reading, playing games and spending time with my 9 (almost 10, yay!)
grandchildren (and, of course, their parents too!)
